A three to six string plucked instrument which nearly

disappeared in the 1970s, but has been revived with increased interest and efforts on behalf of Ainu heritage.

Mukkuri

Mukkuri (Bamboo instrument)

A bamboo jaw harp of the Ainu people. The Mukkuri’s reed is attached to a string

which is pulled sidewards, away from the player’s head to produce vibrations and sounds.
